A Farm Stay in La Plata Mountains
Come stay with us on our working homestead. Fluffy Scottish Highland cows, gardens and greenhouses, and a night sky so dark you can see the Milky Way right over the property.
WELCOME TO OUR HOMESTEAD
The Mountain Highland Homestead is a working farm that will be one of the most restful places you've every stayed.
Twenty acres at 7,474 feet, with unobstructed La Plata Mountain views, Scottish Highland cows, chickens, honeybees, two greenhouses, an orchard, and a night sky so dark that it will take your breath away. We have 2 private stays in the barn, each for two, 12 miles from downtown Durango - close enough for dinner, far enough from the hustle and bustle to truly unwind.
Two Stays: the “Lovely Loft” and the “Beautiful Bunkhouse”
Two Unique Stays: The Lovely Loft & the Beautiful Bunkhouse Both are private, both sleep two, and both have epic views of the mountains.
Sleeps 2 · 1 Queen Bed · 1 Bath
The Lovely Loft
Located on the 2nd floor of the barn, with a private deck that has the best view on the property. Newly remodeled, room-darkening shades, and a bed so comfy that guests ask what brand it is.
Sleeps 2 · 1 Queen + Futon · 1 Bath
The Beautiful Bunkhouse
Ground floor of the barn with bright lofted ceilings, a full kitchen, and your own patio with a grill and propane fire pit. Country charm with the comforts of home.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
The mountains, the dark skies, the animals, and a fridge already stocked with breakfast. None of it costs extra.
Mountain Views
Unobstructed La Plata Mountains from both stays. No neighbors in the frame. Sunrises that make early wake-ups worth it, and a resident elk herd that often beats you to them.
A Real Farm
Twelve Scottish Highland cows, lots of silly chickens, honeybees, 2 welcome commitee pups, and so much more...
Start Your Day Right
Farm fresh eggs, our favorite locally roasted coffee, and organic cream to start your day right.
Yes, you can pet the cows.
Our Scottish Highland cows are the stars of our little circus! There is a dedicated cow petting area north of the barn so you can get close to them safely from behind the fence. They tend to hang out there at the end of the day before they go to bed.
Their favorite place for your to scratch them is under their chins. They don't love it when people touch their horns though. We know they look like big fluffy dogs, but please do not go into the field with them!

Absolutely loved this place! Everything was exactly as advertised. The loft was cozy and very comfortable. Truly somewhere that we were able to get away from it all and relax. From booking to check out Bethany was extremely helpful and responsive. We plan on visiting again when we have more time to stay for a few days.
